The Teddington Water Company Questions

Can anybody have a water well?

Almost every household with a garden can have a water well. With results from a British Geological Survey, we can quickly and accurately assess whether your garden is a suitable location for a water well.

How much water can I draw from my well?

You can legally draw up to 20,000 litres of water every day, without a license. We each use approximately 145 litres of treated water per day in the house and a sprinkler uses between 300 and 600 litres of water an hour.

Is it environmentally friendly?

Yes. Tap water is heavily processed with chemicals and is often stored for long periods before it travels through the water mains. Drawing fresh water from your own well means that you are not putting chemicals back into the ground. Most bottled water brands come from water wells and your tap water probably comes from your local water companies' water wells.

Can I drink the water?

Yes, and in many cases well water doesn't need any treatment. If any contaminants are present, pre-filters and ultraviolet filters can be installed to sterilise the water. This is a chemical-free method of eliminating all pathogens in water.

How long will the well last?

A new well should last a lifetime. All pumps, fittings and materials are made to the highest standard and are covered by manufacturers’ guarantees.

How much will the well cost to run?

Once you’ve paid for the well and pump system, your only cost is electricity to run the pump.

What does it look like when it is installed?

The well head is installed inside a manhole and the controls can be fitted in the manhole or in your garage or shed.

We also install

  • Programmable irrigation systems to water your lawn and plants
  • Water filtration systems (if needed) to supply drinking water from your well
